Voicemail Scam Alert

Mar 29, 2018

If you’ve received a voicemail from an automated voice stating that you “might be taken under custody by the local cops,” you aren’t alone.

A scam is currently circulating through North Alabama that’s targeting residents’ phones. Those who have fallen victim to the calls have been prompted to settle the case by paying a fee over the phone.

The Decatur Police Department would like to remind citizens to be very cautious of this scam and phone calls requesting immediate payment.

Law enforcement will never call you and ask for money over the phone to resolve a warrant.

Contact the Decatur Police Department at 256-341-4660, if you have been a victim or have any questions regarding this scam.
