Duties/Purpose: This is manual work requiring physical strength in maintaining City grounds, recreational facilities, parking facilities, parks, alleys, easements, and highways. Work requires skill in the operation of small to medium equipment, trucks, and farm tractors. Work involves performing a wide variety of grounds and parking facility maintenance tasks. Work also involves the operation of small to medium sized tractors and mowers; scheduling or performing preventive maintenance and performing minor repairs. Employees in this class may sometimes be assigned lead responsibilities for specific, periodic crew work. Work is performed under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade who reviews work for quality and results obtained. The employee determines which tools are needed to complete the assignment and works as instructed or consults with a supervisor on matters not specifically covered in the original instructions. Additional guidance is provided through Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and guidelines plus Departmental and City of Decatur policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through efficiency, productivity, attendance, policy adherence, and observation of work while in progress and upon completion, and through performance evaluations.

Requirements: High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency.  Some experience in grounds maintenance or construction work and some experience driving a truck or tractor, or mower; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Written Examination is required for this position and will be given on or about Wednesday, November 14, 2018.  Eligible candidates will receive notification of scheduled Examination location and time via EMAIL, or U.S. Mail where email information is not provided on employment application or resume.
