The city of Decatur has been awarded a $333,000 grant to extend the Bill Sims Bike Trail along Modaus Road Southwest.

State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, said the grant is federal funding that is administered through the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternative Program.

The grant requires a 20 percent match of roughly $83,0000 from the city. The City Council must accept the grant and approve the matching money.

The roughly 1-mile asphalt trail will run along the north side of Modaus Road from Cedar Ridge Middle School to Jack Allen Private Drive near Jack Allen Sports Complex.
