Decatur Home Ownership Made Easier

What is DECATUR H.O.M.E.?
DECATUR H.O.M.E. provides financial assistance to qualified low-income families for the purchase of a home with MINIMUM MONEY DOWN.

The City of Decatur will pay ½ of minimum required down payment or the entire minimum required closing costs, some including prepaids.

The home you purchase must be located in the city limits of Decatur.

 

How Does it Work?

  1. Contact a mortgage company to pre-qualify for your loan
  2. Select the home to be purchased
  3. Negotiate with the seller to establish price
  4. Make formal loan application to the mortgage company
  5. Make application with the Community Development Department*
  6. Attend loan closing

*At time of application, please bring 2 items
(1) Commitment letter OR good faith estimate from the mortgage company
(2) Recent check stub OR a copy of your tax records for verification of income

Do I Qualify?

  • You must not have owned a home in the last three years
  • You must be able to obtain a mortgage loan
  • You must not have participated in this program before
